Baltimore Fishing Lessons


Fly Fishing Schools are a great introduction to the sport. Learn how to tie knots, identify fly patterns, and practice basic casting. Unravel the mystery of fly fishing with a patient, wise instructor in a meadow overlooking the Gunpowder river.The Gunpowder is a tailwater fishery located in Baltimore county that supports a stream-bred population of wild brown trout. The first seven miles of river is managed by the state as a catch and release, artificials only section. Schools are held on the Gunpowder river by a Maryland state licensed and insured fishing guide.A Maryland non-tidal fishing license and trout stamp is required and may be purchased at the shop with check or cash the day of the school.
Essential Information If you?re planning on fly fishing in Maryland, or anywhere else for that matter, this course is a great introduction to the sport. The school covers knots, casting, gear and fly selection.
Participants Schools are limited to four
Location Located a convenient distance from Baltimore and also serving the Washington, D.C. area as well
Duration the duration of the course is 3 hours
Weather Dependency Fishing proceeds rain or shine, however, should there be extreme weather conditions your scheduled time may be adjusted to accomodate.
What to Wear Please wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes as well as weather appropriate outerwear. You will get wet!
Guests Participation is not available for nonpaying guests
Weight Limit None, however, must be fit enough to wade through water and have the ability to swim for safety reasons.
Age Limit We suggest that children are at least 10 years old, and have their own interest in fishing. All minors MUST be accompanied by an adult. Due to the intensity of the course, it is not recommended for younger children.
